Anime North Fanfiction Contest 2008!

Are you a literary otaku? Do you like to put your favorite characters through paces unseen in canon? Then you’re a candidate to enter the Anime North Fanfiction Contest!

How do you enter? It’s simple. Save your fanfic as a .txt or .rtf file with breaks between the paragraphs. Write a one-paragraph summary of your fic, and tell us what anime it’s from and your preferred E-mail for us to contact you. Then, send your fic to animenorthfics@animenorth.com no later than 11:59 PM April 15th.

It’s not necessary to be at the con to win, although we do prefer it – we’d like to give writers a chance to discuss their skills at the con! If you are unable to attend, please let us know.

We will accept up to 50 entries. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of Best Plot, Best Characterization, Best Prose, Best Use of Setting and Most Original, plus an overall Grand Prize. Special Judges’ Prizes will be awarded if we find a fic that we feel handles a particular theme, such as comedy or drama, exceptionally well.

SUBMISSION RULES:

  • Entrants must give their real name at the time of submission to qualify for an award. Names will not be shared with judges.
  • Stories must be no longer than 7,000 words; there is no minimum length.
  • All fics must be submitted as .txt or .rtf files.
  • All fics must include a one paragraph description attached to them.
  • Authors may choose to classify their fic – comedy, drama, etc. – to let the judges know their intentions.
  • Fics must be formatted in a readable fashion, and those deemed not readable will be subject to rejection.
  • All fics must be in story format - no scripts, etc.

All fics should be in English. The use of other terms (most specifically Japanese) unless appropriate is discouraged.  When the use of Japanese terms is appropriate, they should be common terms, or contain a dictionary.  In short, don't mix and match English and Japanese (or any other language), unless appropriate.
